Excessive Cardboard Packaging

  • Annually, the US ships approximately 165 billion packages, consuming cardboard equivalent to over 1 billion trees.(Fast Company)
  • Global consumption of paper and paperboard totaled 408 million tons in 2021, and is projected to reach 476 million tons by 2032. Packaging accounts for the largest share of global production. (Statista)

Excessive Retail Packaging

  • Global e-commerce is expected to consume around 4.5 billion pounds of plastic by 2025. (Statista)
  • A recent campaign from Lonely Whale and Point Break Foundation claims that by the year 2025, there will be 1 tonne (a metric ton) of plastic for every 3 tonnes of fish in the ocean. 
  • It gets worse – the United Nations tells us that by 2050 there will be more plastic waste than fish.

Absence of a communication platform with manufacturers

  • Lack of platform to communicate with manufacturers results in surplus and wastage.
  • In the United States alone, we currently generate about 6.9 million tons of e-waste yearly, by 2030 that numbers will be 81.6 million tons globally. (World Economic Forum)

Fake Reviews

  • According to a recent study that examined 33.5 million reviews for bestselling products on Amazon, almost 43% were fake. (CyberNews, 2023)
  • TikTok features 141.5 million posts tagged #TemuFails.
  • 74% of online shoppers have experienced buyer’s remorse

Overspending

  • According to a new Bankrate survey conducted by YouGov and released on April 11, Over 50% of Gen Z respondents say they use buy now, pay later services — with 29% of all users admitting to overspending. 
  • 33% of Americans believe they’ve spent more money on Amazon this year than they have in their savings account. (Upgraded Points, CNBC July 2023).

Increase in Logistic Cost

  • Warehouse labor cost increase from about $14 an hour to about $26 an hour and warehouse rental increase by almost 25% YOY.
  • Ocean freight cost has increased by almost 39% YOY while  air freight cost has increase almost 43% YOY.  (CNBC May 2024)
